
Anthony Bailey, OBE, GCSS,
Anthony Bailey is Chairman of ELIGO INTERNATIONAL (Managing Director 1997-2001). He is a senior public relations and public affairs practitioner with wide agency and in-house experience. He co-ordinates and directs many of the company’s national and international government, corporate, crisis and issues management, tourism and business-to-business client programmes.
GOVERNMENT & DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
In the government arena, Anthony advises Eligo's government and diplomatic clients on a wide range of communications disciplines including, media relations, economic, trade, tourism and culture promotion, issues and crisis management, VIP visits co-ordination and protocol and ceremonial issues. These have included complex communications assignments for state and private bodies across the world including PERU, BULGARIA, SAUDI ARABIA, LEBANON, BRAZIL, SYRIA, YEMEN, CZECH REPUBLIC, BAHRAIN, PORTUGAL, VATICAN CITY STATE, MONGOLIA, SLOVENIA, EGYPT, PANAMA, COSTA RICA, ANDORRA, THE PHILIPPINES, THE GAMBIA, THAILAND, TUNISIA, CHILE, MALAWI, MAURITANIA, MONTENEGRO, PAKISTAN, GUYANA, RUSSIA, SWAZILAND, SRI LANKA, VENEZUELA and MOROCCO..
CORPORATE
In the corporate field Anthony advises clients of a wide range of communications activity including media relations, special events, public affairs and investor relations. He has worked under contract to BAE SYSTEMS, SHELL INTERNATIONAL, CHARMING HOTELS, CATERPILLAR TRUCKS, GENERAL MEDITERRANEAN HOLDING group and RAFFLES INTERNATIONAL, PORTUGAL TELECOM, BUCHANNAN CAPITAL GROUP, LE ROYAL HOTELS group, BROWN’S HOTEL, INSTITUTO DE EMPRESA in Spain, MAWRED, and WOMEN IN BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL, among others.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Mr Bailey was awarded a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in 1991 from UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON (UCL) and holds diplomas from ST CYRIL AND ST METHODIUS UNIVERSITY OF VELIKO TURNOVO AND SOFAI UNIVERSITY ST KLIMENT OHRIDSKI in Bulgaria (1989 and 1990) and the CORVINUS UNIVERSITY OF BUDAPEST in Hungary (1991). He has been elected a full member of the CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM (CIPR) in 1997 and the INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSOCIATION (IPRA) in 1996. Mr Bailey was also elected from 2004-2005 as a member of the IPRA United Kingdom Committee.
Mr Bailey is a Life Fellow of THE ROYAL SOCIETY FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF ARTS, MANUFACTURERS & COMMERCE and a Fellow of the ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE. He is also a FREEMAN OF THE CITY OF LONDON since November 2004 and a Liveryman of the WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF LORINERS since January 2005.
HONOURS AND AWARDS
Anthony was appointed in the 2008 Queen’s Birthday Honours List as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of his contribution to “Inter-Faith Relations and to Charity”.
Anthony holds other state and religious decorations in recognition of his professional, charitable and interfaith activities. HM The Queen has granted Unrestricted Permission for him to receive and wear these honours where such permission is required.
In 2009 His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI raised Anthony to the rank and dignity of Knight Grand Cross of the Pontifical Order of Pope St Sylvester (GCSS) having earlier been decreed to the rank of Knight Commander of the same Order by the late Pope John Paul II (HOLY SEE).
Among other state awards bestowed on him are: Grand Officer of the Most Devoted Royal Household Order (KINGDOM OF TONGA), First Class Grade of the National Order of the Montenegrin Flag (STATE OF MONTENEGRO), First Class Grade of the Order of the Madara Horseman (REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA), Knight Commander with Star of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique (PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC), Knight Commander of the Royal Order Al-Alaoui (KINGDOM OF MOROCCO), Knight Grand Cross of the National Order of Juan Mora Fernandez (REPUBLIC OF COSTA RICA), Grand Officer of the Order of Manuel Amador Guerrero (REPUBLIC OF PANAMA), Knight Commander of the National Order of The Cedar (REPUBLIC OF LEBANON), First Class with Collar grade of the Order of Unification - 22 May (REPUBLIC OF YEMEN), First Class Grade of the Syrian Order of Outstanding Merit (SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC), Knight Grand Cross of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George and Knight Commander of the Royal Order of Francis I (ITALY) and Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre (HOLY SEE).
In January 2012 Anthony was awarded the STERNBERG FOUNDATION INTERFAITH GOLD MEDALLION for his contribution to furthering inter-religious understanding. In January 2006 Mr Bailey was awarded the Medal of Merit and Co-operation by the President and Council of the LUSO-ARAB INSTITUTE FOR CO-OPERATION based in Portugal.
PREVIOUS APPOINTMENTS
Previous professional appointments include that of Senior Media Adviser to MANNING, SELVAGE AND LEE Limited, (1996) Senior Account Director of BURSON-MARSTELLER INTERNATIONAL (1991-1995) as well as Program Manager of Management Communications at IBM EUROPE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA in Paris (1995). Anthony was a freelance journalist for a number of national and international newspapers and magazines from 1988-1998. Mr Bailey has also served as a Principal Press Secretary for the Peruvian Government at the GATT-WTO Summit in Morocco in 1994.
